British horror icon Barbara Shelley who is best known for her starring in 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness' dies at the age of 88.
Her agent, Thomas Bowington, told the media that Shelley had recently been in hospital, where she contracted Covid-19, adding, "She had underlying" health conditions.
Bowington also said, “She really was Hammer's number one leading lady” and the “Queen of Hammer.”
Shelley starred in some of the best known horror titles, including ‘The Gorgon’, ‘Dracula: Prince of Darkness’ and ‘Rasputin: The Mad Monk’.
In an interview in 2009, she said she was told at a convention by female fans that they loved her for her strong roles.
"Which I thought was a brilliant thing to have said about one. I never thought of it in that way. The fact that I’m still getting mail from my horror fan base really touches me," she said.
Her screams in the horror flicks that she starred in gave her a 'Scream Queen' title.
